Jakarta: PT Pertamina (Persero) is reviewing new options to move the construction site of the new oil refinery or Grass Root Refinary (GRR) from Balongan in East Kalimantan to Kuala Tanjung in North Sumatra. Consideration to move the location of the construction of the production resulting from the processing at the factory will later be exported.
President Director of Pertamina Nicke Widyawati said the existence of the port became important and later the location of the construction of the new refinery is close to the port of Muara Tanjung which is operated by PT Pelindo I.
“So there is a possibility that one of the options being examined is that Bontang we move to Kuala Tanjung,” said Nicke, to Medcom.id, Tuesday, 25 February 2020.
However, regarding the transfer of such
locations must have been an assignment from the government, especially the
Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM). Furthermore, Nicke said the
location transfer option has nothing to do with Overseas Oil and Gas (OOG)
disconnection.
Separately, the Secretary of the Pertamina company
Tajudin Noor said it will continue to strengthen the construction of the
refinery even though it has not obtained a partner. New partner searches can be
done in parallel with the construction.
“We continue to see the possibility of anyone for
our factories,” said Tajudin, found in Parliament complex, Senayan,
Jakarta, Monday, 24 February 2020.
Previously, PT Pertamina and OOG have established a
commitment to run the Grass Root Refinery (GRR) project development or new
refinery development in Bontang. The commitment carried out in December 2018,
is marked in a framework agreement between the two companies to build a
refinery capacity of 300 thousand barrels per day and petrochemical in Bontang,
East Kalimantan.
