REPUBLIKA.CO.ID, KUALA TANJUNG–Kuala Tanjung Multipurpose Terminal (KTMT) operated by a subsidiary of PT Pelabuhan Indonesia I (Persero) or Pelindo 1 showed positive performance growth in 2020. Boat visits at KTMT until August 2020 reach 169 calls or there are 4 to 5 calls per week.
This realization rate grew by 30 percent from ship visits in 2019 to 130 calls. The positive growth of Kuala Tanjung Port supported by its large capacity will attract investors building the industry.
In addition, the realization of container loading and unloading at KTMT until August 2020 as much as 30,309 boxes. The realization of container unloading until August 2020 grew 32.5 percent from the realization in 2019 of 22,870 boxes.
If in TEUs, the container loading and unloading realization until August 2020 is 31,956 TEUs. This realization is up 34 percent from the achievement of container unloading in 2019 by 23,937 TEUs.
The increase in throughput is not just for container loading and unloading, as is the loading and unloading of liquid bulk and general cargo at KTMT. The realization of liquid bulk loading and unloading at KTMT until August 2020 reached 242,596 tons for CPO commodities and their derivatives. Realization up to August grew 137 percent from 102,200 tons in 2019.
The realization of general cargo loading and unloading until August 2020 amounted to 46,801 tons, up 176 percent from the achievement of realization in 2019 which reached 16,970 tons.
“When viewed from the realization of loading and unloading traffic in Kuala Tanjung Port, be it for containers, liquid bulk, and general cargo there is a positive growth trend. That is, Kuala Tanjung Port operates well and the market response is also positive with the presence of Kuala Tanjung Port. Kuala Tanjung Port is supported by sei mangkei hinterland and Special Economic Area (KEK) so that the industry in Kuala Tanjung starts to develop which then impacts on positive traffic growth,” explained Pelindo 1 President Director Dani Rusli Utama.
Dani Rusli Utama explained that the essence of the construction of a port is the ecosystem, so we all strive to accelerate other industries into kuala tanjung area and Kuala Tanjung industrial area. “Pelindo 1 is optimistic that Kuala Tanjung Port will be the future of Indonesia. This port has good facilities, draft 16-17 meters LWS (Low Water Spring) so that it can serve ships with a weight of 50,000 DWT ( dead weighttonnage), and growth has started well.

KTMT operated by PT Prima Multi Terminal, a subsidiary of Pelindo 1, PT Pembangunan Perumahan, and PT Waskita Karya continues to conduct cooperation with various parties for container loading and unloading services, liquid bulk, and general cargo. Currently, domestic shipping that regularly enters KTMT is SPIL, Tempuran Emas (Temas Line) and Meratus, while for international containers namely Forecastle Shipping and Logistics. For liquid bulk, KTMT serves CPO loading and unloading owned by PT Industri Nabati Lestari and PT Astra Argo Lestari as well as serving general cargo owned by PT Waskita, PT Multimas Nabati Asahan and PT Cemindo Gemilang.
