The vision of Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) 1 to become a global logsitic gateway began to materialize. This marked the birth of strategic cooperation between Pelindo 1 and two world-class ports namely The Port of Rotterdam and Zhejiang Provincial Seaport Investment & Operation Group Co., Ltd. (Zhejiang), Friday (7/5).
The signing of the cooperation is contained in the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) and Term Sheet of Cooperation of the Kuala Tanjung Port and Industrial Estate Development Project (Kuala Tanjung PIE). The MOU was signed by Pelindo 1 Director of Business Transformation and Development Joko Noerhudha, Director of PT Pelabuhan Rotterdam Indonesia Andre G. F. Toet, and Assistant General Manager of Zhejiang Provincial Seaport Investment & Operation Group Co., Ltd. Shi Jianjie.
Attending the event online were Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi and Deputy Minister of SOE II Kartika Wirjoatmodjo, Deputy for Investment and Mining Coordination of Kemenkomarves Septian Hario Seto, President Commissioner of Pelindo 1 Achmad Djamaludin, President Director of Zhejiang Seaport Group Mao Jianhong, President Director of Pelindo 1 Prasetyo, and the entire board of Directors of Pelindo 1.
The Minister of Transportation strongly supportsPelindo 1’s commitment in accelerating port and industrial areas in Kuala Tanjung. Budi considers the signing of the MoU to be a new round of development of Kuala Tanjung.
He also hopes that cooperation with a number of strategic partners will continue to be added to accelerate the development of Kuala Tanjung.
“The performance of this port is quite good. When viewed from the performance of Multipurpose Terminal
which increased quite significantly as a new terminal. In 2019 to 2020 container cargo, CPO liquid bulk, general cargo and ship visits continue to increase,” said the Minister of Transportation.
For direct call shipping from Ningbo-Kuala Tanjung, Budi hopes to improve the port’s performance, thus increasing the attractiveness of potential investors to the Kuala Tanjung Industrial Estate. In addition, the existence of the port can provide maximum economic impact, reduce logistics costs and improve Indonesia’s logistics competitiveness with other countries.
Economic gateway
On this occasion, President Director of Pelindo 1 Prasetyo was optimistic that the signing of the MoU and Term Sheet cooperation will accelerate the development of Kuala Tanjung PIE. Accordingly, with the support of the Port of Rotterdam and Zhejiang Seaport Group which has a global logistics network, the location of Kuala Tanjung PIE
supported by potential hinterland, as well as full government support, Pelindo 1 is confident that Kuala Tanjung PIE will become Indonesia’s Logistic and Supply Chain Hub.
”We are confident that Kuala Tanjung PIE will be one of the new economic gateways in ASEAN and an important node in the global trade and logistics network connecting Europe and Asia,” Prasetyo explained.
Pelindo 1, Port of Rotterdam, and Zhejiang Seaport Group will cooperate in optimizing Kuala Tanjung Multipurpose Terminal (KTMT) operated by Pelindo 1’s subsidiary, PT Prima Multi Terminal (PMT). Port of Rotterdam, and Zhejiang Seaport Group will be part of the share holder in PMT, together with Pelindo 1, PT Waskita Karya Tbk, PT Pembangunan Perumahan Tbk. In this cooperation will also be carried out direct call ships from Ningbo Zhoushan Port to Kuala Tanjung Port.
In the Industrial Estate, Port of Rotterdam, and Zhejiang Seaport Group sectors, it will cooperate with Pelindo 1 subsidiary PT Prima Pengembangan Kawasan in developing an industrial area in Kuala Tanjung covering an area of 200 ha in the first phase provided for industries from China.
In addition, the signing of term sheet cooperation between Pelindo 1, Port of Rotterdam and Zhejiang Seaport Group which includes Term Sheet Conditional Share Subscription Agreement (CSSA), Term Sheet Shareholder Agreement (SHA), Term Sheet Industrial Estate Co-Development (IECD).
