Medan (ANTARA) – Pelindo I management continues to accelerate the development of the Kuala Tanjung Port, North Sumatra, in line with the continued increase in loading and unloading traffic at the port.
“Currently, we continue to coordinate and explore cooperation with various parties to develop Kuala Tanjung. Pelindo I continues to accelerate port development, ”said Pelindo 1 President Director Dani Rusli Utama in Medan, Friday.
He said that after receiving a working visit from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenkomarves) Team to Kuala Tanjung Port & Industrial Estate and Belawan. In an official statement received, Dani Rusli said that since operating in 2019, the performance of the Kuala Tanjung Port which is managed by a subsidiary of Pelindo 1 has continued.
The increase is indicated by the increasing number of ship visits as well as container loading and unloading activities, liquid bulk, and general cargo. As of September 2020, he said, Kuala Tanjung Port was loading and unloading 34,857 boxes of containers. The loading and unloading of containers grew 52.41 percent from the realization in 2019 which amounted to 22,870 boxes.
“In the TEUs unit, the realization of container loading and unloading until September 2020 was 36,775 TEUs. The volume was up 53.63 percent from the realization in 2019 which was still 23,937 TEUs,” he said. The increase in throughput, he said, was also followed by an increase in unloading.
The realization of loading and unloading of liquid bulk by September 2020 reached 252,597 tons or doubled from the realization in 2019 which amounted to 102,200 tons. The loading and unloading of general cargo until September 2020 amounted to 54,879 tons, a significant increase from the 2019 achievement of only 16,970 tons. “The port of Kuala Tanjung recorded a positive growth trend which indicates a good and positive response from the market,” he said.
He emphasized that increasing connectivity between ports, trains, and toll roads will be the motor to strengthen the operational progress of Kuala Tanjung Port.
